Holding Rain in the Headwater residency at Joya Air Art and Ecology residency located at Joya Desert, Almeria, Spain.
Land and water restoration project, where other participants and I restored an ancient water catchment system, built check-dams and created art as a response to the place.
Here, I started to explore patterns in nature. It prompted me to reflect upon connections to the land and land art, as well as incorporating a methodology of ‘grokking.’ ‘Grokking’ is inspired by Robert A. Heinlein in his book Stranger in a Strange Land (1961). I conducted various cyanotype experiments (on paper, wild clay, wood). I cast stones, minerals and textures from the Joya desert in silicone for future work. I started to reflect and research Autism and connections to place.
