I am a fisherman, a fish, a net, a river and a bear
I am a hunter, a shotgun, a bullet, and a dead body
I am an island, an ocean and a crying woman

In this work, I reimagine the hierarchy and relationships of the Sakhalin Island
ecosystem, equalising all living forms and imagining them as one entity. This personal and vulnerable expression of grief and hope finds its voice in the letter I read to the Sakhalin.
In this message, I discuss how the current Russian government's actions and inactions affect Sakhalin: The over-extraction of resources, mountains and fields of non-recycled garbage, dead wildlife. I draw an animalistic connection from these decisions to the island's response to them, and by doing that, I aim to reinstate their personhood.
